Heuristic Solution of an Extended Double-Coverage Ambulance Location Problem for Austria

چکیده
In this paper, we present solution procedures to tackle an ambulance location problem in Austria. We consider the problem as a doublecoverage ambulance location problem, and for specifying it in formal terms, we use an extension of a model developed by Gendreau, Laporte and Semet [11] by introducing a limit on the number of inhabitants served per ambulance. To solve the problem, we reimplemented the Tabu Search algorithm 2 Karl F. Doerner et al. of [11] and developed an Ant Colony Optimization algorithm. Our computational tests are based on real location sites, the population census data and the real road network data of eight provinces of Austria. For the two smallest instances exact solutions can be found and used as a measure for the performance of the two metaheuristic algorithms. For these problem instances, both metaheuristics find the optimal solution easily. For the larger instances, Tabu Search and Ant Colony Optimization yield results of comparable quality. However, Tabu Search turns out as distinctively faster.

Fuzzy Multi-Period Mathematical Programming Model for Maximal Covering Location Problem
In this paper, a model is presented to locate ambulances, considering backup facility (to increase reliability) and the restriction of ambulance capacity. This model is designed for emergencies. In this model the covered demand for each demand point depends on the number of coverage times and the amount of demand. The demand amount and ambulance coverage radius are considered...
متن کاملA New Heuristic Solution Method for Maximal Covering Location-Allocation Problem with M/M/1 Queueing System
We consider the queueing maximal covering location-allocation problem (QM-CLAP) with an M/M/1 queueing system. We propose a new solution procedure based on decomposition of the problem into smaller sub-problems. We solve the resulting sub-problems both with a branch and bound algorithm and with the meta-heuristic GRASP. We also solve the entire model with GRASP. Computational results for these ...
متن کاملA case study of optimal ambulance location problems
Aiming at improving the efficiency and reliability of ambulance service, several location models for ambulance stations have been proposed in the operations research literature. Well-known approaches to this problem are coverage model and median model. Coverage model looks for the location to maximize the (deterministic or probabilistic) covered demand of ambulance calls. Hence this model can b...

متن کاملComparison of Simulated Annealing and Electromagnetic Algorithms for Solution of Extended Portfolio Model
This paper presents two meta-heuristic algorithms to solve an extended portfolio selection model. The extended model is based on the Markowitz's Model, aiming to minimize investment risk in a specified level of return. In order to get the Markowitz model close to the real conditions, different constraints were embedded on the model which resulted in a discrete and non-convex solution space. ...
